So today is your 3 week birthday, I figured it was time to write out your birth story. For some reason I just knew I was going to go into labor on the 19th. But, lets start two days earlier.
On Wednesday, August 17 I had a normal weekly checkup. The doctors became worried when my blood pressure was high and sent me to get blood work done. I was told to come back on Friday for a follow up appointment. This time, my blood pressure was really high and we were sent to the hospital to be monitored. Of course this wouldn't be an easy task, there had to be many floods and traffic backups everywhere! It took us about an hour to get to the hospital.
At 5:30 we were checked into a room in triage (a very uncomfortable bed, btw) where we were monitored for 4 hours. At 10:30 the nurse came in and said that we were being released, my blood pressure was normal. Of course, being the stubborn person that I am I wanted to talk to the doctor. Since 2pm that day I had been having contractions, and I believed that I was in the beginning stages of labor. For an hour I waited for my doctor, the whole time pacing the room. When she finally arrived it was determined that I was in active labor! The doctor asked if I wanted an epidural, and of course I did ;) I had to get the epidural in the triage room, and the nurse kept commenting on how weird that was. Usually you are in a birthing suite, but Magee was so busy that night their wasn't any available.
This had to be he longest night ever! It was a very small bed, but your dad and I try to cram into the bed. Dad was able to sleep, but I was too excited to finally meet you! I was watching the worst tv ever, reality shows and news to pass the time. This had to be the longest night of my life. After getting the epidural you can't eat or drink (because you might have to have an emergency c-section), so it was just a long hungry night.
By 6am I was finally moved into a birthing suite. The bed was so much more comfortable! Then I was able to sleep for an hour or two and dad was able to sleep on the couch (he was sleeping out in the waiting room before, the chair in the room was horrible and there wasn't enough room on the bed!)
At 10am the next morning Grandma and Grandpa stopped in, and so did your dad's friend Andy. By noon I was ready to push! 36 minutes later you were here, it was amazing.
Everything about that day was just perfect, we had no hiccups. I remember that I couldn't stop staring at you, you were just so amazing. Words can not describe the feeling, I know that is very lame to say, but it is true!
